The 371st Memorial Monument
The 371st Monument Association has engaged distinguished sculptor, Maria Kirby-Smith of Camden to design, sculpt, and cast a monument to honor these African-American heroes. Maria has previously sculpted a statue of the 371st’s Corporal Freddie Stowers for Anderson University.
The design will use a near-replica of the existing 371st monument, located near the French towns of Ardeuil and Sechault, as the base, and surmounted with a realistic and correct portrayal of 371st soldiers.
The existing monument commemorates the Regiment’s dead from the Champagne Offensive. The new base will include all combat-related dead, either killed in action or died of wounds.
